I watched the Upstairs Downstairs reboot this month but since it aired between Christmas and New Year strictly speaking I couldn’t include it in a Best of 2011 list, so I need to do a seperate post to say that this clip (starts at 00:45, embedding disabled) of Mrs Thackeray the cook accidentally bumping into Cecil Beaton is one of the most heartwarming things I’ve seen on TV ever....

I recently read My Father’s Wives by Jose Eduardo Agualusa and found in it this poem by the Angolan poet Ana Paula Tavares.
